Mohun Bagan to honor nonagenarian olympian Keshav Dutta to give Mohan Bagan Ratna award on Mohun Bagan Day

The most important day in the Mohun Bagan Club Calender is 29th July celebrated every year as Mohun Bagan Day. On 29th July 1911 the football team lifted the IFA Shield for the first time in 1911 defeating the British.

Mohun Bagan Athletic Club is going to celebrate Mohun Bagan Day 2019 to commemorate the victory of IFA Shield. On this day all the successful players of Mohun Bagan awarded by various prizes. The main thing is Mohun Bagan Ratna which is a prestigious award, presented each year on Mohun Bagan Day to outstanding former players.

Century-old Mohun Bagan Club for the first time to honor a non-footballer Keshav Chandra Dutt, winner of two-time Olympic gold medal in the field of hockey for India, will be conferred the Mohun Bagan Ratna during its annual day celebration on 29 July.


The 93-year-old Keshav Chandra Dutt, who played as a half-back, was part of the National Hockey team that won gold medals after India’s Independence– 1948 London Olympics & The former centre halfback won his second Olympic gold in Helsinki 1952. He is one of the oldest surviving hockey Olympians of the country.

Besides  Keshav Chandra Dutt, former Indian Football Team captain and midfielder Prasun Banerjee will be honoured with this year’s Mohun Bagan Ratna Award.

The 64-year-old Banerjee, who is the iconic footballer, was a prominent midfielder of his times. He played in three Asian Games in 1974, 1978 and 1982. He was part of an Asian All Star XI team.
